I reckon its a great skill to learn Cav, and tbh not hard to become good enough to get by.

Hi all I have stumbled on to this Epas electric power assisted steering so attached to column no power steering pump no lines no electric fluid pump modification to column are required, not cheap but not super expensive either starting at $1700 also uses a factory manual rack

    what’s your thoughts

These have apparently become popular in the vintage car scene, but can’t see it being legal for road use though, I would have thought an engineer is going to balk at signing off a modified steering column?   The electrically driven pump one though I have seen a bit but using an Astra pump.  At least then you can mount the pump anywhere, like up under the guard.

A few of the guys I race with use them and speak highly of them, I’d look at the legality side of it first though.

NZ may be different, but most engineers in Aus, especially the one I’ve been speaking with, prefer using factory parts where possible, cuts down on the amount of testing involved with certification.

Yea I have regular power steering, actually with both the Pacemakers and the 4 into 1’s I have room.  As you say its tight, but it is everywhere.  With mine, I spent a while with the engine mounts loose as, with the engine supported by a block of wood under the sump on a jack, and took the time to move it around a little to get the best position before locking it all tight.  It doesn’t knock anywhere and the engineer & RTA were happy with it.

Cant remember, are you planning on modifying the K frame, the sump, or seeing it doesn’t need it?  In my case I modified the K frame, but if I did it again I would have taken the corners off the back off the sump and had them tig welded up so the K Frame stays original.  I know with Cavs he has clearance but every other time I have seen something needs to be modified to give enough room.

I’m running CAE mounts and a VS K frame, have at least a finger of clearance around a VX sump on my LS3, fit great the first time in. CAE 1 3/4 tri y headers, needed a little massaging to make sure there’s enough clearance. VL manual rack.

Exactly the path I went down. Granted I took a little bit more off than just the corners…  :hmm:

I am running a Canton circuit racing sump, so its a lot different to a standard one.  The only reason I got it was I looked at all the dimensions and it seemed it would fit without modifying the k frame, umm, yea nah….
