One of my work mates has son who drives in the 1/4 midgets in speedway. He’s spent about 2 years rebuilding the car and recently picked up a sponsor as the boys gets faster and more recognised as his driving abilities continue to grow. Last month they bought a set of vehicle scales and the father of a very well know NZ supercar driver who is also very good behind the wheel of a rally car taught him how to set the car suspension up using the scales and how to adjust for track conditions which seems to have helped improve the boys lap times even further. Before the scales he was just adjusting the suspension using blocks as measuring tools.
November 11, 2017 at 12:03 pm #25113I built a scale when I was doing the Suspension development but haven’t had it back on since, I added some to the right rear spring to take into account it was faster with a passenger so I’ll see how it behaves next weekend.

That I do, they’re actually Cattle scales, built the base to be the same height as the go jacks so you do one wheel at a time. (couldn’t justify dropping 2K on a set)

Like butter.
November 23, 2017 at 8:33 am #25214Thanks Guys, first time using it I was pretty happy, was in Newcastle the last couple of days and had a cruise around the track Monday evening, it’s going to be eventful to say the least!
November 23, 2017 at 8:56 am #25215You going to be at geelong over the weekend?
November 23, 2017 at 9:31 am #25216Nah I withdrew after our Tarmac event…
Too narrow with no run off, I’m not that good a peddler and don’t want to kill the car now it’s so close to right.
November 23, 2017 at 9:47 am #25218Transmission Happenings…
As I let on the other day I killed 3rd and 4th gears at my last Swan Hill event, this was on my fully rebuilt Trans where I’d left no stone unturned and it was as good as I can possibly build it. (it lasted 3x on the back straight then it was back to being a 2 speed)
Since then I’ve learnt of another aftermarket product that would address the issues of losing the 3>4 clutch pack which is an inherent fault in this type of Trans..
However it’s $4200 for the parts…. Bit of background on this Trans, when they changed from 3 speed to 4 speed they only added 20mm to the case length, this means the 3>4 clutch is tiny, the upgrade parts uses clutches from the older TH350 which are HUGE by comparision..
BUT I’m not going that way, After some research and speaking with my Trans Guru mate John I decided to build an old school analog TH350 as I don’t use 4th ever (geared for over 300 Kmh) the new Trans will be Full Manual with no automatic shifting at all.
Of course at this power level I can’t just slap something together with cheap parts as it’ll just eat them so it’s costing more than the Upgrade to the 4 speed but I believe it’ll be the better choice, I have the parts to repair the 4 speed (thanks Brett) and will keep it as a “Spare” for the Tonner.
The pile of parts to the right of the pic represent more in $ value than most of our club cars….
I toyed with the idea of a 6 speed Manual but don’t have the room length wise and I’d then have 3 gears I’d never use so shelved that idea…
November 23, 2017 at 9:52 am #25219Bout time u took the plunge. I would of thought a t400 would be better suited
have you considered a trimatic😳
November 23, 2017 at 10:04 am #25221LOL Cav, 400 is too long, too heavy sucks more power and just not needed as I’m not breaking hard parts in the 60… pass on the Traumatic..
November 23, 2017 at 10:18 am #25222They can build a tri now to suit the power. Nice and light, super quick shifts and cheap to build.
