    Traction is a bitch sometimes.

Nice to have it for a change, old transfer case would just light the rears driven like that!

    Not thinking of another box?

Nah I have a solution for this particular issue, if I swap something else in it’s going to be a minimum of 5K probably a lot more…

This failure was my fault I should never have ran it that hard in first..

realistically do you need the short gearing? would you get away with something like a 3 speed

Then I’d lose the lockup converter and being able to program the trans to behave how I want it to…

If I make a change it’ll be a manual, maybe next year..

Yea nice, I know what you mean, costs add up, if you are going to spend money like that may as well go a nice manual.  Just out of interest what would you go if you went manual?

Probably a 6060 and a nice light Twin Plate.

    t6060 or even the MagnumT56

Granted a t400 can be manually shifted, would be a quicker shift response then any manual.

Yep but one more crack at a 60  ;-)

Stock part on the right, upgraded on the left it uses a laser cut plate to double the contact area on the case.

Couple of places, Adaptacase and I can’t think of the brand mine is, only difference is mine is 8 bolts Vs the 6 on the other one! (and mine was available off the shelf in Melbourne the other day)

From an engineering viewpoint not that impressed with those bolts in shear. Be nice if the load was taken through dowel pins and the bolts just held it together.   But great concept.

It’s the Aluminium in the case that fails, this just doubles the load bearing area, I can’t see the bolts being an issue Gary still has to be stronger than stock.

For sure its way way better than stock, and only giving my opinion/musing/trying to add value, but using countersunk heads screws like that from a pure engineering standpoint isn’t really the best way to do it, as you just are not gaining the full potential strength wise of a what is a good design mod/improvement.  Personally I think a better way would be to fit it up like it is, then drill through and ream it and fit dowel pins.  Screws like that should be used to hold it together, not take the load.  Its a very personal thing but I hate countersink socket head cap screws used in a load situation like that with a passion, the problem is the hex is so small compared to the thread size, so you can never tighten them up enough.  But as I say its way better than stock.  And nice trans rotisseries btw!!

Guess it all came down to a space consideration, there just isn’t room to use real bolts in there and the other brand only uses 6 bolts and there’s no reports of failures that I could find.

Not sure if dowels would help all that much as the only way the bolts are under any load is if the splines in the case fail and by that time the whole assembly is going to turn, the Concept is to add extra surface area to the contact points so the stock assembly can’t act like a saw blade and cut through the Case splines.

Yea I guess you are right, they must be under some sort of load though or they wouldn’t be needed?  All good, carry on building kind sir!!
