August 2, 2017 at 4:36 pm #23851Thanks Gary, Yeah looking forward to it for sure, ran into a bit of a DOH moment yesterday when the exhaust ran into the Transfer case…
Went and grabbed a few bends and did the reroute today!
August 2, 2017 at 4:40 pm #23852Looking good Ian.
Whats the line running up the tunnel?
August 2, 2017 at 4:47 pm #23853Thanks Cav, just the Purge line for the charcoal cannister, decided while it was apart to P Clamp it up as it got ripped out once before when I had an off….
August 2, 2017 at 6:32 pm #23856Ahh yeah nice. I might have a suss and see how much room is up there.
August 2, 2017 at 7:37 pm #23862Street car I’d just go hardlines along the inside of the sill.
That line was an afterthought or that’s how I’d have done it.

Posts: 5 777Surprised you run a charcoal canister at all on a racecar?
August 3, 2017 at 5:18 pm #23865Surprised you run a charcoal canister at all on a racecar?
Was just trying to replicate the Tonner when I was chasing the fuel system issue, our Charcoal cannister serves a couple of handy purposes, it recirculates the vapours and doubles as the overpressure vent for the tank, before I ran it I’d left it full of fuel in 40c heat… my tank now holds an extra 2 litres…
————————–
And that’s the Engine Bay finished, just have to put the interior back together and it’s done!
I found my Catch Can bracket was 3/4 broken, no surprise as I’d hung my Vacuum reservoir off it and the bracket was never designed to take that sort of load, Tigged it back together and added some gussets all good!
August 3, 2017 at 8:18 pm #23868Looks the goods mate. I might just use my old fuel line as the vapour line considering I gotta make 2 new ones.
Also is that speedflow fitting on intake port the vac source for your catch can?
Also again, what size intake pipe and MAF.
August 3, 2017 at 9:25 pm #23870My setup is a little different to most Cav, I run a -10 line from the Pass side rocker cover to the Catch can then a -10 to the intake pipe but in the middle of it is a one way valve that has a -6 line tapped in before it and that goes to a PCV and into the Blower, the reasoning behind this if it ever has enough blowby that the -6 can’t flow it’ll open the one way into the intake pipe and not blow the rear main seal…
There’s a -6 fresh air into the driver’s side rocker cover that is fedd from the intake pipe with a 2mm restrictor, this setup has worked flawlessly for a few years now even with a 70K KM motor.
It’s a Lingenfelter 4″ MAF and 4″ piping.
August 4, 2017 at 1:51 pm #23871And done!
Just have to fit up a couple of bits that are at the post office refit the Boot shroud and bolt the wheels back on!
Pulled the Ign fuses and cranked it till it showed Oil Pressure put the fuses back in gave it another couple of cranks to fill the fuel system and it fired right up and idled like a kitten!
Actually seems quieter this time don’t know if it’s just me getting deafer or the uneven pipes before the H in the exhaust!
Put it up in the air to do a Leak Check and bzzzz it was dripping Trans fluid, first thought was FML… then I remembered the inspection port I put under the dead pedal!
Unbolted it then convinced the Sikaflex to let it go checked the fittings they were tight… bugger, checked the hose onto the Barb and sure enough it was loose, put a new Stainless Cable tie on it all good! (I had planned to replace it with Braided Hose while it was out but as it has’t leaked before decided not to… DOH)
August 4, 2017 at 5:07 pm #23872The Bitch is back!A couple of observations on the new engine, it’s never been this quiet it was always a bit of a tin can full of rocks and it’s never been this responsive to the throttle!August 5, 2017 at 10:50 am #23882Bedded the rings in on a private road, 1st shakedown complete no issues

Posts: 535Maybe those original tie bar lifters were causing more trouble than first thought?
Gotta be happy with it though
August 5, 2017 at 4:48 pm #23890Maybe those original tie bar lifters were causing more trouble than first thought? Gotta be happy with it though
Yes I think they’ve been a problem the entire time I’ve run this engine it was always clattery and would pop and fart on occasion, that and never responded to the throttle how I felt it should but being blown 6.6L it had “enough” power to cover up it’s shortcomings…
Feels like a very different engine now and is just so quiet, no need for earplugs at 100 Kph cruise!
