Posts: 775wow it doesn’t like the slow tight corners does it or are you just going too fast ??
July 24, 2017 at 8:04 pm #23736With the old Transfer case it’s totally unpredictable what it’s going to do so I tend to carry a lot of entry speed as I have NFI what it’s going to do next… hence the rework.

July 25, 2017 at 3:47 pm #23745Late start, went down after lunch and did the trial fit, as expected the new Fat Bastard is close but not quite!
Learnt from past experience if some clearance is good more is better if nothing else is in the way so did a few cuts, just have to nip into town tomorrow as I’m all out of 1mm sheet metal..
Ohh and for some weird arse reason they moved the crossmember centreline 28mm…

Posts: 5 777That’s one thing I think would be cool about building your own race car, its like “I need more clearance, ok, so i think I will just cut a hole then!” Nice work.
July 25, 2017 at 4:05 pm #23749LOL it’s very liberating after decades of building Street cars that have to comply…
“That bit’s in the way… cut it off”

Posts: 5 777Yep exactly. And you are not stressing about scratching stuff, or it has to be running tonight so I can go to work tomorrow, etc.

I’m a bit pissed to have missed the first event of the new season but my mate in the US wasn’t able to source the case I needed for a few weeks so the plan fell apart, other than that agreed on no stress if it’s not going!
so what changes have you made , do know it will work or is it guess work ,,, that track looked cool
Biggest change is the new Transfer case, I’ve driven a few WRX’s and usually manage to better the owner’s lap times so I know it’s not me… the way the car behaves on dirt makes you question if you can actually drive or not, as an experiment I had a mate do a few laps and he had the same issues.
By comparison an WRX feels like it’s on rails and they use a Viscous LSD so it’s a case of if I can’t beat em I’ll join em!
The Car is Sensational on Tarmac so I know my Suspension design is working well, other changes are the engine freshen up as it’d done 70K Km’s in my Tonner the new non sticking LS7 Lifters and changing the fuel system to be on/off with no PWM controls as my average Lap is only around a minute with an 40>50 minute break before the next Lap so Heat soak is a non issue.

Posts: 775ok well it’ll be good to see the comparison when you get back out there
July 25, 2017 at 8:29 pm #23757The way it is if I have a good run without too much Psycho behaviour I can equal our club champ’s lap times it just lacks consistency..
I’m really looking forward to seeing what it can do with the upgrades as it’s shown a few flashes of brilliance
July 26, 2017 at 9:34 am #23759So it wasnt an option to get a lsd centre for the existing front diff?
July 26, 2017 at 4:41 pm #23774So it wasnt an option to get a lsd centre for the existing front diff?
No we’re talking about the Centre Diff, the Holden Transfer case is open so you end up destroying front tyres under power, my upgrade choice was made when the drivetrain was still in the Tonner so I decided on a T3 Torsen Centre Diff and it was good on road but when I built the Lexcen “logic” told me it should be ok as it’ll try to route the power to the wheels with the most grip…
It does try but with the amount of power and torque it makes it loses the plot gets confused and never does the same thing twice which makes the car difficult to drive..
The new Transfer case has the Viscous LSD so “should” be far more predictable then I can start driving the car and not spend my time reacting to whatever it thinks is a good way to kill me
July 27, 2017 at 12:11 pm #23784Reworked the Crossmember then bolted it all back in so I can make the new floor sections.. CBF’d doing any more today..
July 27, 2017 at 12:37 pm #23785You don’t more today then I have in 5months.
