I like to think I’m getting a bit good at all this

Still waiting on the new Transfer case from the USA so no real rush to get the engine back together, running though a few other upgrades I wanted to do on the car while it’s down.

Its a stunning build Ian, seriously, and not just the engine.

Thanks Gary, was starting to despair a little on the Handling side of things as it keeps trying to murder me 10 times per Lap…

It has flashes of brilliance when it’s hooked up then goes all schizo, last meet in Swan Hill I got to take people for rides and a Mate pretty much summed it up to what it’s doing, I have Hardware inbound to Correct it so we’ll see how it all goes, on Tarmac it’s simply awesome with little to no handling issues.

Interesting the handling is so different tarmac to dirt.  Keep us posted on the solution.

I think it does what it’s meant to do on Tarmac, on dirt it’s too easy to overpower one end or the other and the Torsen Centre loses it’s shit and bangs the power around end to end making it very unstable and unpredictable..

Sort of in effect you need an LSD for the centre?  Is that what a Ferguson system does?  (excuse my ignorance)

New Case has a Viscous LSD in it much like the WRX’s, only difference is the Torque split, WRX is 50/50 mine is 38/62 which with the way my thing makes midrange torque a good thing!

Nah wasn’t too bad, mine are Ceramic coated on the Crowns and the Carbon wasn’t thick, soaked them in the parts washer overnight then a scraper and a wire brush did the job!

Few more bits to clean and I can start reassembly.

I used to get mine Triple coated when I ran the Turbo engines, Ceramic on the Crown, Moly on the Skirts and a Heat Dispersant underneath with Oil Squirters, Dropped the Heat dispersant but still use the other two in Blower engines, I think it’s well worth the effort my Pistons were Mint when I removed the Carbon.

Heat patterns underneath all look good other than a couple that had the dodgy lifters that hadn’t been working as hard.

Good to know. Never knew anyone that used them aside for BIG $$$ engines. Does it cause clearance issues?

What boss engine aside from lsa has oil squirters.

With the Triple coating I had to close up the piston to bore clearances to stop it sounding like a diesel when cold, double doesn’t seem to be as bad, most of the Turbo Toyota engines run squirters.

Bit of an Update, my Drivetrain parts have all left my mate in the USA’s place and ETA is next Tuesday, costing me a fortune in shipping costs to get them here so soon but as it is I’m missing the first round of the new season due to a delay in sourcing the parts so $$$ was the only way to get a jump on it all.

Been cleaning parts for the last few days and made the mistake of leaving the Timing case and Rear cover seals in the parts washer too long, the rest of the gaskets are fine but whatever the black material is in the front and back covers it doesn’t like the cleaner… DOH

180 Km round trip today to source new ones and I “should” be set to make a start on reassembly tomorrow.  :yahoo:

Gotta love cars, one step forward, two steps back.  Interested to see how much difference the new transfer case makes, but i guess not as much as you!!

I think (hope) it’ll be a massive change in how the car behaves Gary!

    Bit of progress today!
