Posts: 5 777Mate how much does that look! Looks pretty balanced/sorted? you happy with it?
February 21, 2017 at 10:01 pm #21775Yeah pretty happy with it Gary, was MUCH faster than last year but my Electronic gremlin came back after 4>5 laps so that was the end of my day…
Used a softer front tyre this time so it was far better balanced, made the mistake of using my AutoCross suspension settings which meant it was far too soft for that track and rolled around a bit…
February 22, 2017 at 8:56 am #21778Spoiler, different front bar? When did all this happen..
It looks fast in the video.

Posts: 5 777I agree, how about a bit of an update since the last post Ian?. Just a summary of what you have done and why? Its a very very cool build (car) unique in fact! I recon there is a lot of us would love to follow how its evolved.
February 22, 2017 at 2:06 pm #21781Thanks guys, that’s just it’s V8 Supercar suit, I throw it on for Tarmac events with the Semi Slicks, it’s blindingly fast to the point last year at the Colingrove Hillclimb it was half a second faster to the first split than a 991 GT2 Porsche using Launch control!
I had entered for the 2 day event and had to pull out of the 2nd day as my neck was too sore to continue so it’s pulling some big G’s…
The last 12 months have just been a development process and while the car has improved I’ve been fighting an issue where after 5 runs it goes into what feels like a Boost Phobia so soon as it goes + it bucks and cuts out…
Have tried everything I can think of to solve it and have now made a bunch of big changes so hopefully one of those is the remedy..
When I first built the car it was designed around the Michelin 16″ Rally tyres as I can’t fit the more common 15″ over my brake package.. by the time I completed the car the 16’s were NLA… so I had to use the Goodrich All Terrains, which were hopeless until I grooved them to stop it “aquaplaning” on gravel..
At the end of last year our “Gun” member took me for a lap in his WRX and I was stunned to see he’s at least 20>40 Kph faster in every corner than me, having said that on a good day when I get my shit together and the car doesn’t play up I can equal his Lap time!
I had found a Michelin 16″ “SUV” road tyre I thought would work but being Michelin they were expensive.. fast forward and I found a good supplier in Vic to buy the tyres for the Tow car and had mentioned to him about the Michelins… he said I have those.. WOW checked size and price both correct so bought a set in November last year, fitted em up and headed to Swan Hill for their last meeting of the year as it’s a really fast track, got there Saturday arvo only to have the event cancelled due to a total fireban…
So still haven’t used em, <fingers crossed> they have another event the middle of next month so I hope to make that.

Posts: 5 777Nice little write up mate, sounds like an absolute blast. Wonder what it would do on the 1/4 with 4 slicks on it. I guess it would be reasonably heavy (?) but I image it should hook up pretty well.
February 22, 2017 at 4:28 pm #21784Dunno Gary the Porsche is meant to be a low 11 second car, it’s about 1550Kg’s wet.
February 22, 2017 at 10:11 pm #21788It might not be the prettiest Car. But it doesn’t exactly what it’s meant to do and does it well.
Whats planned for trying to get it to corner like the WRX? Or is it purely a weight thing. I’d imagine what you lack in cornering to him, you make up for in terms of outright speed.
Hows the IATS’s go with your current setup also?
how do you find the circle D converter? I’ve heard great reviews about them.

February 23, 2017 at 2:41 pm #21799LOL Cav, yeah it’s butt ugly but given the high chance of me binning it at some point it’s just not worth making it pretty..
If I had wound some damping into it it would have been much better on that track, as for on dirt I think/hope the new tyres do it as the old ones were letting it down badly, I see 60>70c IAT’s measured at the back of the blower so it’s doing ok..
Love the Circle D, recently had it Cut and cleaned in Melbourne, they replaced the Lockup discs and the bearings and it’s good to go again, it had done 70K Km’s with a couple of Trans deaths thrown in so it was time.

Posts: 5 777Doesn’t look butt ugly to me, I reckon with a just a small amount of vinyl work would look pretty nice. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, its a racecar after all.

February 23, 2017 at 5:01 pm #21802It’s ok from a distance… trust me it’s Fugly
February 28, 2017 at 6:22 pm #21883Back in Autocross Mode, hope to make it to the 2 day event in Swan Hill on the 11th!
Have made a bunch of changes since the last time it ran on dirt and SH being a big track should suit it more.

Posts: 289Does it take you long Ian to change it all over from road to autocross mode?

Posts: 5 777I guess you should answer HDN05L’s question above, but yep shes not the prettiest girl at the prom
February 28, 2017 at 9:23 pm #21887LOL it’s fairly quick, usually only takes me about 20 minutes as I’ve been using the Autocross Suspension settings the last few times it’s been on Tarmac but in hindsight given the new front tyres I could get away with tweaking things to give a better result on road!
Told ya it’s a bit Fugly but given it’s intended use there’s no use making it pretty as I’d just be miserable if I bent it!
March 7, 2017 at 7:51 pm #21955Done a few Mods to try and sort an issue I’ve had since I built this thing… after about 4 Laps something heatsoaks and makes the engine go into a BoostCut situation, tried everything I can think of in the past to stop it doing this and this time instead of just a single change at a time I’ve done the shotgun approach…
I deleted the Tach adaptor from the ignition system in case it was breaking down with heat, I also fitted up a Charcoal Canister/Vent/Purge into the fuel system as it was relying on the Fuel cap vent only, I replaced every Relay under the bonnet just in case and have swapped in a new ECM today…
In the past I thought it mave have been tune related and that it was shutting the DBW but I managed to get a log file of it playing up and that ruled out the DBW totally..
Running at Swan Hill this weekend so will see how it goes!

Posts: 5 777Good luck with it buddy.
March 8, 2017 at 12:53 pm #21959Thanks Gary, <fingers crossed> hopefully in the bunch of changes made I’ve “fixed” it
Added a small heatshield today in case the radiant heat from the Headers is affecting it.
March 8, 2017 at 3:48 pm #21961Looking the goods.
Don’t you hate it when you have 1 little piece of shit problem and you end up changing 6million things to fix it. Then 5 weeks later you realise it’s something unplugged or a 50cent part.
