Posts: 5 777I have def mellowed as I have gotten older, I will now reluctantly admit the GT40 was a pretty cool car. I actually always had a liking for the look of a 2 door XP too. But there isn’t any way in hell I will ever own one
April 30, 2016 at 8:51 am #16456I’m not really fussed and will use whatever works, the owner supplied Ford fans so that’s what we went with but I’d prefer to keep within a brand if possible, I don’t really have anything against Fords and if they ever make a car worth owning I’ll consider buying one
May 5, 2016 at 4:30 pm #16582Today End!
Went down to do a bit on the Monaro, turns out the supplied “drop in” Aluminium radiator isn’t as drop in as you’d imagine, factory rad has a rebate on it’s mounting flange that goes over the lip on the Rad support, the replacement is flat so would require spacers to fit…
NOT such a bad thing as I’m not a fan of solid mounting Al radiators so I’ve ordered some 8mm rubber isolator mounts, they serve 2 purposes, 1 they isolate the radiator from vibration, 2 they isolate it electrically in case there’s any “stray current” in the car, if there is it can erode a tube and leak within a few weeks… NOT a good thing!
With the Monaro coming to a screeching halt I decided to fill up the Lexcen, nice surprise it only took 25L to fill and NOT the 48L I thought I had, turns out the Fuel Sender isn’t linear so led me astray, after I filled it to the brim I noticed it still had the slight seepage from the Sender, I’ve tried to correct this a couple of times now in different ways but have failed each time, it’s fine if you don’t fill up the neck but not an ideal situation as parked up the car reeks of fuel..
Decided to pull the Sender out and remachine the top flange so it’s flat, made some new Viton washers bolted it all up and dry as a bone!
Fired it up and left it running outside for awhile and still dry so I took that as a win and put it away ready for next weekends 2 days of racing.

Posts: 322Ah yes, but my theory is they didn’t come out of the Ford factory, I believe the interior roof light for example on a VR has a Ford and Holden part number. But the one in my car was never handled my a Ford guy Btw I realize my almost pathological hatred of anything Ford has pretty much no actual real factual basis, but it is real in my mind
I could make you cry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup lol couldn’t believe it, it is just an xf throttle with ford ground off it haha. I actually found a shop selling brand new ones, got a few for 200 bucks few years ago, probably should have stocked up. No idea what the secondries one was off tho.

My Isolator mounts for the Monaro Radiator finally arrived!
I made some Viton seals to try and stop the fuel sender in the Lexcen weeping when full, was ok for a couple of days then it started again so I ordered some Nylon washers to replace them but they haven’t arrived yet so today I tried 10 different places in town….
Ended up machining some up on the lathe today from a piece of nylon bar I have here, put it all together and it looked ok for a few minutes then started seeping again… ARGHHH
Pulled them out and turned them a bit thinner then mixed up some epoxy and glued it all together, I’ll let it set overnight then fill it back up..

Thanks Gary,
Still not real flash but I cope, if I let it stop me every time it hurts I’d do nothing…

Had a few decades practice at it and can usually find a workaround to get things done, never been the type to let things beat me
