    Today End!

Shot down to Melton this morning and collected another 2 Spiral Mufflers then headed across to Heidelberg to collect some shock oil I need so I can mod the Koni’s, also collected the Steel and Hardware I need to reinforce the Rear control arms!

    Today End!

Reset the sway bars to “Stiff” dropped the exhaust and pulled out one of the shocks ready to make the mods I need to do, dropped the rear A Arms, in the pic that plate is meant to be flat, not bent with a twist.. DOH, didn’t expect there to be such a twisting moment that far out, all part of the game though now I know I can correct it and beef things up!

And an unbent one for comparison!

LOL yep that’s how it goes, I erred on the light side “because race car”..

Just needs reinforcing, I picked up the materials needed yesterday and have it pretty much sorted in my head how it’s going to go, finished it’s going to be 16mm thick with I beam type gussets compared to the existing 6mm so should be Bomb Proof.

You must always remember the 3 engineering laws….

    1.  Ropes can’t push

    2. Triangles are very strong

    3. Water runs down hill

In this case Law 2 applies, nice chunky triangular side gussets and wont hurt to take them up the tube a fair way to feed the load into the tubes.  With the bottom plate, the stiffness of a plate is proportional to the cube of the height.  What that means in plain English is twice as wide = twice as strong, twice as thick = 8 times as strong.  So you don’t have to go insane on the thickness to dramatically increase its strength.

I know I am preaching to the converted here, you just hand built a whole bloody race car :good:

Honestly didn’t expect it to get anywhere near the sort of traction it does so didn’t think it was going to be an issue!

All in all not a bad problem to have though!

Hell yea, minor in the scheme of things, good/lucky you were wise enough to back off when it didn’t feel right.

Sounds like its going to be a bit of a weapon once its sorted, and a hell of a lot of fun.

It highlighted a few “Driver” short comings though… I’m no where near fit enough for this and I’m not even close enough to having the skills to do it justice!

    Today End!

Went down and discovered I couldn’t do the Shock mod I had in mind… ahh well doesn’t matter, pressed the Control arms straight in the 50 Tonne press then made a start on the Mufflers, all done and I think it will be under the Track limit now!

    Muffler Vid

Would have been interesting to see back to back dyno before and after to see what the reduce in power.

Yep, but it’ll still make more power than it did in the Tonner, Power Output will be “adequate”  :XD:

I even considered putting the 3 Psi Pulley back on after the weekend but I’ll wait and see how it drives without “Rear Steer”
