The system I built for the Tonner is right on 88Db… It’s heavy and complex…

I guess like everything race car, you want it to barely pass and be as light as possible :)

Darren seems to think it’s going to be real close, as I said I have 0 experience with Spirals so really curious to see how it sounds!

The system I built for the Tonner while not the prettiest thing around works well but as mentioned is very heavy, probably 4x the weight of the Lexcen one (4x the price in parts as well from memory)

Very nice and neat work, not disimilar to mine.  Of course with mine (VR) I could only go out the side of the fuel tank, so not split at the back.  As I say it was loud as initially (113dB).   I think though with mine there was definitely some sort of low frequency component that was also making it read high.  One of the things I considered was a hemholtz pipe, not something you would use on a race car though.  You will sort it I’m sure, first thing will be to find out exactly how and where its measured.

Plan to go out to the Track this Sunday and get some solid info on that Gary!

    Today End!

Went out this morning to prime up the fuel system and leak check it, one and only leak was the Jazz Breather that I didn’t touch…. They run a plastic Roll over valve/nut and it looks like whoever assembled it stripped the threads…

My “fix” was to use an Aluminium -12 bulkhead nut that I turned down to half thickness then machined off the dodgy threads from the plastic valve, I then used my thin nut to tighten the plastic washers sealing the tank and screwed the roll over valve on the remaining threads so it’s fully operational.

Could probably have left it off as I’m using the Filler neck as the Breather and the cap has a one way valve but figured Belt and Braces for safety, Also installed my fine filter after the Lift pump, someone asked how much fuel the Foam in the tank displaces, roughly about 5 Litres.

That’s enough for today, I laid out one of the Old VR Looms in preparation for “Wiring” <shudder>…

    Today End!

Made a start on the Wiring today as I’ve put it off as long as I can…

1st loom is just to run the electric windows… I separated it from the VR Loom so it’ll work standalone and plug into the existing connectors, I got 1 window working just need to trouble shoot the other 3… (had enough for one day)

2nd loom is the VZ Main body harness and rear harness, once I figure out a way to get it out through the Firewall it’s mainly PlugNplay just looks daunting.

Yeah kind of a must with the Boot mounted Coolers, there’s no flow through ventilation so I’ll have to crack the rear windows a touch to get some airflow through the car :XD:

(I’ll see if I can get the electric mirrors to work tomorrow)

LOL went to the track today and asked about this…. short answer is “They don’t” :yahoo:

Another one the officials when I commented how loud one of the cars were replied “Make it as loud as possible”

Think I’ll still work on getting it 95Db Track legal as other tracks may not be as understanding :XD:

Very interested in exactly how and where its measured, i guess it just has to be a max value “x” metres away being a race car?

Yeah I’d say they just set up on a straight and grab you on acceleration, got pinged by the EPA once, 253 in a HQ Coupe, I blew past their test equipment at redline… took it in to be tested and it passed easily, test was 4300 from memory..

Having said all that HTF do Harleys get away with it….

Agreed re the harley. All 4 strokes are measured at 3000rpm, but harleys are treated differently and get 2500rpm.  Mine ws 91db at 3300.  All interesting stuff.

Yeah, H.D. would probably sue the government for Patient or trademark infringement if they quietened them down……. That said I’d say most superbikes are over the limit at higher revs anyway.

Old lawnmowers are over 95 dB from memory.

It’s really hard to get anything 3″ under 90Db just due to the sheer size of the ID of the pipes and mufflers, really curious to see how the Spirals go in this regard as they’re so light and compact!

    Today End!

Managed to get the Mirrors working, really easy when you have a circuit diagram, thanks Justin!

Made a template for the new bigger oval Main body harness grommet and proceeded to extend the stock round hole, after a LOT of swearing and a bit of unpinning I managed to get it and the fuse panel through, imagine how happy I was to find my Supplier had sent me the wrong Loom… ARGHHH

After the 18 month Tonner Debacle to get the right loom/abs module combination so it would work this left me not happy not even a little bit, couldn’t see happy if I got on the Scissor Lift fully extended.. 360 Km round trip to collect the correct harness and I’ll try again tomorrow..
