    Today End!

Shot down to Melbourne this morning to collect my headers from my mate the Coater, Ceramic inside and a new Black coating on the outside, usually use TurboX but my guy says this one cleans up much better and resists chemicals so I thought I’d give it a go!

Many thanks to Andrew at Competition Coatings in Coburg!

Also collected a bunch of small hardware needed for assembly.

    Today End!

Went out and fiddled early this morning and decided it was too cold to continue, came inside got some lunch and watched 5 minutes of the Formula E race at Monaco…. didn’t think it was possible for a race there to be mind numbingly BORING if that’s the future of MotorSport I’m out….

Went back down to the Shed and started assembly of the Interior.

Hmm, fuel lines inside the cabin area. This gives me ideas.

I also bought 2 sets of those fan strap ties you posted… :good:

LOL not fuel lines, they’re Coolant hoses for the intercooler, Fuel lines are Aluminium hardlines under the car.

    Fast shipping on the ties?

    Today!

Part of my cunning plan for the fuel filler is to machine up a reducer from 2.5″ on the tank neck to 2″ then TIG it on, this required a trip to Bendigo to get some thicker TIG filler as the 1.6mm I normally use gives too wide a heat affected area and will destroy the roll over seal surface…

Of course they didn’t have an 2.4mm in stock so it was looking like a trip down to Melbourne… adding in the 150Km’s in the wrong direction would have made it a 390 km trip.. arghhh

Young guy there looked out the back nada,… looked at the computer and said hang on and went and checked the pallet whoo hoo 2 packs so all good!

Thought about running them and the Trans cooler lines through the cabin but decided it might be a bit unsafe…

Odd mine arrived in a couple of days!

    Today End!

Fuel Filler is 98% done, just have to hunt up another Filler neck Grommet from a Wrecker as they’re NLA since 2004 at Holden weld on the Breather AN fitting and it’s finished!

    Today!

So much for NOT doing anything today…

Went down to the shed to put the Bin out then ended up “fiddling” for the last 4 hours…

Put some bulkhead fittings into the Fuel Cell for the returns then pulled the Surge tank apart to swap out the old Teflon Seal washers and change a couple of the fittings around for the new routing, also chucked some E85 safe Tank foam into it while it was open.

    Today End!

Got finished early around 4, took some pics stepped back and looked at the brake line routing… decided I wasn’t happy with it and OCD kicked in, 2.5 hours later I’m done… again!

Will that be able to get pinched by the spring?

nah that’s not why I moved it, I was worried that the tyre would catch it, plus the springs will have covers.

    Today!

Mocked up the Front suspension and steering so I can build a pair of steering stops, due to the Akerman angle Holden use you need a positive stop to prevent the inside wheel over travelling on full lock.

Had to pull the Engine off the Crossmember so I could paint the engine mounts and I need to bolt the Converter to the drive plate but this means splitting the trans/engine so I can install the spacer washers…

Once that’s all done I can start assembly and bolt it all back in for good!

    Thanks :XD:

    Today End!

I don’t like the idea of Steel on Steel contact between the Rose Joints and the steering stops, I needed a piece of thick plastic between, problem was I didn’t have anything like that here…
Quick run into town and bought a couple of cheap cutting boards!

    Stops are all done!

Have you got any idea what your roll centres and roll axis will be like?  Pretty curious what your suspension will do as I know commodores have quite a problem with these once lowered.

At full ride height it’s going to be “not great” but the plan is to select springs that will sag down into the middle of it’s travel for autocross so I can float it over most obstacles, for hillclimb and track days I’ll use springs that are 100mm shorter with Helpers then tweak the sway bars to minimise roll, haven’t graphed axis or centres properly as it’s all been a big compromise to make it dual purpose with minimal changes..

The original “plan” was to have 2 complete Suspensions and swap them out depending on the event but as it doesn’t really fit any classes I decided to not take it all quite so seriously and just have some fun for a change :XD:
