I’ll keep it going up to the day the Lexcen heads out for Scrap then start a new one…

Early start to beat the heat!
February 6, 2019 at 12:06 pm #27898Is it much tighter in the bay and tunnel?

Posts: 585Mate that drive train in a lighter body should be next level. What a great build I am sure this will be. Guess you are right too, be nice for the old Lexcans thread to finish as it sits now.
The last post should just be a pic of it at it’s best, in action on a circuit, then thread closed
February 6, 2019 at 12:50 pm #27901All of that get’s modded anyway as I[‘m rear setting the engine quite a bit!

I can do that, I have an event 23 and 24th of this month so will have some pics from that!
February 6, 2019 at 1:10 pm #27903Keen to see this.
Not sure if anything they sell is of any use
February 6, 2019 at 2:00 pm #27904Thanks for the thought but none of that is applicable
February 6, 2019 at 6:25 pm #27910Looks like a fun new build. Don’t forget the E36 will probably need some subframe stiffening to prevent cracking.
February 6, 2019 at 9:04 pm #27913Not so much the subframes more the mounts in the body, the 36 isn’t as bad as the 46 but I have plans to beef em up considering the torque the engine makes..
February 7, 2019 at 12:39 pm #27927Need to move the 36 so I can use the Hoist, bit difficult with no wheels…
Plan B, my old machinery skate I made to move the milling machine here.

Posts: 5 777Should just about be strong enough to handle it…
February 7, 2019 at 5:51 pm #27931LOL in hindsight I may have overbuilt it a little…
——————-
I’m sure BMW hired someone from Toyota’s department of complexity…
If there’s a hard way and an easy way to do something they’re in charge of making it damn near impossible to work on…
I now have a fairly empty E36, just need to strip the dash and wiring.
February 8, 2019 at 9:01 am #27932You make it look like an episode of overhaulin… Never seen anyone smash through work like you

Agreed!!
That bay looks actually quite spacious IJ? Have you done any measuring up yet, how do think its will go fit wise?

Posts: 5 777I thought I would update the banner image, and also make the background colour black in the old girls honor… RIP

Thanks, I’m a bit limited physically these days so don’t really push that hard, in the old days this would have been done in 3 weeks..

I’m mounting the engine a long way back in the chassis this time to correct all of the front end geometry so “Fit” isn’t really an issue

Makes it really hard to navigate…

Went into the village and collected a couple of parcels, one was some terminals I’ve been waiting on to finish a set of jumper leads for the Tonner.
They plug into the big Anderson plug I use for the winch, benefit here is if I have to jump start someone on a divided road/freeway there no U turn required.
The other parcel was some strut tops (had to make them for the Lexcen) it’s nice being able to buy things off the shelf, also pulled the AC condenser out of the E36 after reading a how to online….
They also address an issue with the big front tyres as the wheels clear the calipers but when I run the camber I like the tyres rub the springs without the 4mm spacers…
BMW really make every single thing difficult for no apparent reason…

I will never whinge about how complex the Holden E38 wiring is again…
No wonder people shy away from older BMW’s…
Ok it’s about ready to start the build once I’m done with the Doner at the end of the month!
