LoL yep it’s one or the other here, nothing I’m doing lately is time sensitive so I can work around it.
January 20, 2019 at 11:36 am #27809Racecar related, last big trip I did to drop off the VL I found 6x CD’s weren’t enough so figured time for an upgrade, got one with a Camera to make hooking the trailer up easier when it’s loaded!
February 1, 2019 at 5:12 pm #27867Executive decision, 39c forecast for Sunday, all kinds of nope apply!
Spent the day putting it back to tarmac mode for Wodonga at the end of the month, this will be the Fat Bitches last run..
February 4, 2019 at 11:23 am #27871Last run? What have you got instore IJ?
February 4, 2019 at 11:45 am #27872Bit of an upgrade, the Lexcen is going Trans it’ll identify as a BMW now Renno
February 4, 2019 at 3:19 pm #27873Ohhhhhh I like where this is going.
February 4, 2019 at 4:30 pm #27874Ditto Cav,
It addresses a lot of the Lexcen’s shortcomings, I’m the first to admit I had NFI what I was doing when I built this car and it’s fundamentally wrong as an Autocross car and just too big as a Hill climb car..
The E36 as it sits with the interior stripped out is 1020Kgs with a drivers seat so I can move it around, it was 1133kgs stock so already a 300Kg+ saving, there’s probably another 100 to 200 Kg to come out of it once I get serious.
It’s only 127mm shorter in the wheelbase so should still be derivable, the front and rear overhangs are minimal which will allow me to run the engine rearset and the front axle to go in front of the engine instead of through the sump, which means I can correct the front end geometry and lower the engine in the chassis.
All in all well worth the effort.

Posts: 775so running gear from lexcen ???? or new stuff lsa manual maybe
February 4, 2019 at 5:56 pm #27877Nah I’ll use all the gear from the Lexcen, not being rude but an LSA is a step backwards Frazer
My engine is all forged it’s bigger capacity and I have a bigger Blower, I honestly doubt it would be faster or any more fun as a Manual taking into account the th350 is full manual now, it’s a proven reliable combination that makes more than enough power for what I do, the Lexcen has been an awesome learning experience and has kept me alive for the last three years of my driving apprenticeship.

Posts: 775forgot it was a built motor my bad , have you thought about fitment is there much modification to do ,make sure you keep us all up to date it will be interesting ,what happens to the shell (lexcen) then
February 4, 2019 at 6:29 pm #27879ALL the modification to get it in where I want it…
Pretty much using everything from the Lexcen and the only BMW bits will be the basic shell, 99% of this is fro weight reduction and distribution as I’m really happy with the mechanical package.
The Lexcen Shell is off to the Scrap year soon as it’s stripped down, it’s led a hard life as a race car and is showing it, it was always in the back of my mind that it was disposable and I’d just reshell if anything happened but going on what I’ve learnt over the last few years it’s time for a change.
I’ll be concentrating a bit more on the Tarmac side of things when it’s done now it has suitable front brakes, very much looking forward to the build as well and will start a new Thread once it begins..
A few pics for now..
February 5, 2019 at 9:12 am #27880Wow you are keen to start again . Should be interesting to see how it all goes.
How big task will it be to get the driveline in the bmw?
February 5, 2019 at 10:48 am #27881IJ is building another racecar, and I can’t even finish a LS swap lol.
I do have a soft spot for the E36. So I’m super keen to follow the progress on the new build mate.

Posts: 5 777Holy shit balls, have I been living under a rock or something? That’s a HUGE development. Part of me is sad to see it go, but then it makes perfect sense, should piss a few of the euro purists off too… So a whole new thread, or continuing on with this one, maybe renamed?
The fat bitch is dead, long live the svelt Euro…
February 5, 2019 at 6:27 pm #27887Huge Task Sands, but it’ll be well worth it…
Renno I don’t have any other vices or dependents so have a lot of free time, it makes a difference.
Dunno Gary probably time for a new Thread this one is a bit clunky and most of the pic links are broken..

Sold the drivetrain to a clubmate that killed his 36…

Posts: 5 777Mate that drive train in a lighter body should be next level. What a great build I am sure this will be. Guess you are right too, be nice for the old Lexcans thread to finish as it sits now.
