Mine goes in Gary, you have to have the engine a bit forward as the rails are wider at the front, once it clears I roll it back into position, I use a couple of plumb bobs off the Subframe bolts in the rails to align it all then bring the hoist down to a comfortable height and raise the Lift Trolly, takes less time to do than write this out  ;-)

Excellent IJ, thanks for the tip, I think I will try and do the same will be way easier.  My local tool place had 500kg scissor jacks for half price before the EOFY, couldn’t resist…

I had a smaller 360Kg one I used with the Tonner but with the new bigger transfer case it was a bit under rated and wasn’t “happy” Upgraded to a 500Kg one and it’s been fine…. Don’t know how you’ll go with the LSx Block though

+1 for that, its why I have stopped on the MG, I can’t get it on the hoist until the Senators done, and I did a couple of things on the ground then decided yea-nah I will wait. Once you have a hoist you wonder why you went so long without one.

It’s because we spent the money we had on the car and were young and flexible

That’s it… The Ultimate incarnation of the Fat Bitch, this is as good as I can make it without a full redesign and pumping more $$$ in (isn’t going to happen)

Finished the front end and realigned it all, WOW What a difference in turning circle, I can make it into the shed without a 3 point turn now!  :yahoo:

Thought someone might like that

Don’t have a proper one so that was the next best thing and worked perfectly!

OCD can be useful at times, I thought about the alignment steps I followed yesterday and doing the string line isn’t something I normally do..

This extra step replaced an important part of my routine.. normally after each adjustment I roll the car forward back and forward again to remove any stiction in the suspension and tyres as I don’t have turntables..

After the string line I verified the settings with my toe gauges but forgot to roll it, recheck this morning and sure enough it had 1mm toe in instead of 4mm toe out.. DOH

Fixed now and did a few other small tweaks so once I put fuel in its good to go, the rear will come down a touch so it should sit slightly nose down, will be nice having some usable travel for a change.

Seeing your string lines made me smile, I remember when Matt as racing for Borlands and they do theirs similar, when I asked why they don’t have some swanky laser widget tool, they just said why spend money when string will do :)  Look forward to seeing ow it goes next meeting.

It’s a bit low tech, basic and time consuming but it get’s results, racing at Swan Hill on Sunday so hopefully it’s all good, this is the most complete with minimal compromises the car has ever been.

Not sure that it’s going to be any faster but it’ll be a lot nicer to drive and won’t beat the shit out of me every lap..

I think with the FF, they had a front and rear bars that picked up on two chassis points for the string posts.  You bolted them on and could do the alignment anywhere.  Might be able to do something similar with yours to stop you having to use the jacks.  Not sure just an idea?

Pretty sure a man of your experience is all over this, but their set up was sort of like this.

Yeah did that and spent 18 months fighting a car that handled like a Turd thinking they’d aligned it correctly so it had to be something else wrong…

Mine isn’t too bad once I have a baseline, I made a couple of Toe gauges that attach with elastic straps so it’s pretty easy and have a Magnetic Camber gauge I stick to a Disc, pretty much use the same settings for Dirt and Tarmac as well as running Sprints the Tarmac settings aren’t nearly as aggressive as you never have tyre temperature so I tend to stand them up more than I would otherwise.
