I wish I had all the gear you have, life would be a breeze.

It’s hard to justify spending $1000’s on a welder for the odd job although but my kids are almost grown up and starting to head out on there own and the mortgage is almost gone so I’ll look at setting up a small workshop in the garage in the next few years me thinks.

Waiting waiting waiting… Ordered a flexible dipstick from China on the 6th of December, it was way cheaper than anything I could find in stock here just didn’t think it would be coming via carrier snail…

I ordered some stuff from China just before Xmas and it arrived today.  Can’t complain really when when the suggested time was 3 weeks.

#2 arrived, ordered Friday here today (Monday) awesome service.

Moral to the story while China prices may be 1/4 if you need to part “now” pay the price..

Went down and made a bracket to bolt the new Dipstick Tube to then started getting it ready to slot the DriveTrain back in… bzzzz

To get it in I need to drop the Steering Column and Pedal Box then you feed the shaft down between the header tubes, as I was unbolting the Pedal Box one of the mounting studs sheared off with minimal force… DOH

This tells me a couple of things, in later cars Holden used 4x 8mm studs in the earlies like my VR it’s only 2x 8mm, I’m guessing there was a reason, or maybe in one of my “Ohh SHIT” panic stops I’ve over stressed the 24 year old studs..

Either way something needed to be done so I machined down a couple of 10mm Hi Tensile bolts into studs drilled out the old ones and tack welded the new ones in, so I’m back to where I was, as I still have well over a Month in hand before next meeting I called it quits for today!

I like how that dipstick looks, give me an idea for mine (It looks long enough to have it coming over to the passenger side head?).

Are you using the standard MC to strut tower bracket?  Upgrading to a stronger/heavier bracket reduces firewall flex and improves pedal feel as well as maybe taking a little more load off those 2 studs.

Thanks, yes it’s long enough to go across to the left of the car, they come in a bunch of different lengths.

I have another inbound sooner or later when it arrives if you want it $25 and it’s yours!

The Brace is one I made so quite stiff, I think it’s more a case of fatigue in the stock stud and the occasional panic stop..

Would the th350 use the same dipstick as a 4l60e?

I machine the end to suit the 4L60E Seal as it’s much better than the 350 o-rings.

Well then if you don’t want it I’ll certainly take it off your hands then :)

Do you know approx how long the dipstick is? (starting to formulate a plan and design a bracket to suit).
