So founf a wiring diagram for the single led style set up as one in box only had diagram for if you used there indicator.

So i wired up 12v to the DIM position on the Dakota, now when u diconect the 12v selector light is far brighter than the others which are just a faint glow.

However when 12v connected as if lights are on it glows the leds far too bright that its hrd to tell the diferance between whats selected and whats not.

Is the dimmer for cluster like a variable volt switch? As in less volts dimmer lights etc? As thinking maybe should be wired to dimmer switch not hard 12v like it states.

Or maybe its the leds themselves as in not variable enough.

Is the unit designed to work with regular globes and/or LED’s?

Maybe you need to add a small resistor into each LED circuit to induce a load like a regular globe?

Yea it is designed to run LEDs. However. I know led house lights have issues with diming.

when I get home I’ll hook it up to dimmer switch off the cigi lighter lite

So found the problem and makes zero sense to me. I remembered had some other LEDS, i quickly wired one up (large red one) and hooked it to the unit. Works perfect, turns on and off when it should.

Had one of my other spare LEDS and plugged this directly in and has constant glow so its definitely the LED type.

I then managed to get multymeter positive prong into the dakota output terminal for 1st gear, yep it has constant slight power. So obviously my leds are more sensitive where as the others need more power, not sure what to do now as the other leds are big and will not fit with this set up.

Looks like you are onto it, I used those larger ones like the red one above with no issues.

Sorted the issue out as found that the leds dont cut out until 3.9v and the dakota was always putting out a little bit more than this, so i went to jaycar and got some resistors and wired them to each led.

Was not too hard as poked resistor wire through the led negative wire then higher up on the positive wire so then could heat shrink over the top of it once soldered.

Was a bit time consuming but it worked and now they work perfectly!! My loome i originally made was really neat, i couldnt be bothered remaking it so just hacked into it, does the job but a little back yard looking now. Why is nothing simple lol

Good work on finding a solution.  Always a pita with wiring when you do it nice and neat then have to hack into it again!

    Yeah never is simple.

Kind of like making things super neat then redo it all down track when work out a better way or hide completely lol.

Gives me an idea, maybe with the 3D part I could incorporate some way to clip the wires in to tidy them up?

So drove the ute for first time in months, forgot what a pig it is, no not angry pig as in handling and braking. Good thing is the sound deadening and heat dedening worked a treat, drove for 45mins and carpet on floor literally showed no signs of heat.  Very happy. Have a list of things to do before xmas.

    • The brake shudder is horrendous, so going to drop it off at brake place and throw keys at them, simply say fix it.
    • Dropped the door trims off to be redone in correct colour codes
    • Getting the handbrake knob redone in leather
    • Get new pacies of mate and new exhaust
    • New Y piece as never made properly to start with
    • Change all fluids
    • New filter and sort out why has an erratic idle, loves to let idle go way under 500 then shoot up to 1500 and down again when under no load

Good to see you out driving it, doesn’t sound like too bad a list, all part of owning an older modified car unfortunately.

So finally got it all in and working, been busy with work up late quoting jobs for next year so ute is on the back burner and looking at new cars etc. But as usual nothing goes perfect, had the slider just about cut out 100% and the prick snapped so in vid you can see nothing in the gear selector slot yet. But you get the idea, its quite good and pretty happy with results.
I earthed the leds to the shifter body and the loom for leds goes up past the air con controls around under dash where fuse box is. So easy to get to the Dakota box for programming.
You will notice because i altered reverse lockout it is a little awkward to use but thats all good as didnt want to cut a slot in black fascias.
The dakota unit very easy to program, some may say its wanky but i like stuffing about with pointless shit haha

Hope to get the door trims back soon from the trimmer as well as the hand brake boot. The sound and heat deadening worked a treat the floor pan stays with zero heat now for quite a long time of driving and once it does get heat its not scorching hot like it used to be. Loving al the black carpet and facias etc, made the interior look a million times better.

Love the finished item. I welded up my shifter last night ready to do the install next week.

One question is what did you do for the wiring of the micro switches on the shifter?

My mate made a patch loom to plug strait into neutral safety and reverse plug. Easy to wire them in

Thats a really beautiful install mate.  Imo just perfect, sort of how you would imagine Holden would have done it in the factory if they fitted a ratchet.  How are you finding the shift itself, I personally found the effort to shift it a little stiff.  Once I fitted the manual gear know on the adapter it made the lever a little longer and made the shift a tad easier.  Personal preference though I know.

Yea it is stiff you kinda slap it around a bit, hence i understand why everyone said to make sure bolted down securely!! I am very happy with it, was a bit of a chalenge and has come up exactly how i wanted it to.

So i guess now this is the new standard lol, first people hacked the box into console, then people went the drop box, now people making it look like it was never an aftermarket shifter to start with haha B-) (i.e. Working  Lights copied from senator)

    Your 6 years to slow.

Shift must be tight. U don’t want to love tap it and not have the gears select correctly.

   Don’t think anyone 6 years ago was making the standard lights work, senator would be the first guy and only a year ago. I know reading and grasping what a sentence means is tough for you so I understand.
