Posts: 322Yea the stuff i have is pretty much that, then underlay over top with foil backing as well. When i did full resto on my hq i put all new door rubbers, sound deadened floor, underlay and blocked up all holes in fire wall. The difference it made was crazy.
Floor on passenger side been getting so hot where fire wall meets floor the standard sound deadener has brocken down

Should chuck up some pics and which thickness and brand did you end up going with?

Posts: 322So i ended up going with a thermal acoustic insulation that is a aluminium backed butyl matt. I purchased it off ebay and was 1.8sqm for $115. Its about 4mm thick with all combined layers and 3.5kgs a square meter. Quite good to use, once you roll it on it sticks quite well quite hard to get it to come back up. I am sure once some heat gets into it will seal it even better.
I put it over the top of the standard stuck on deadener and will install an aluminium foil based underlay over the top before installing carpet.

Posts: 5 777Nice work, for some reason every time I see that stuff laid I think it looks like like a fun job to do. Will be interesting to hear back how much it kills the heat in the cab.

Posts: 322Haha yes it actually is odly satisfying, as its not crazy sticky so you can position it perfectly, and work from one side with the roller. Rolling it to the contours of the floor. The more you roll it the better it holds, not much effort required to make it look like a pro did it.
Would take effort to remove and no doubt once some heat gets in it will stick even more. I made sure i went up the sides of trans tunnel etc as my centre consol gets quite hot.
Floor plan had got do hot in passenger footwell where the extractors are that the original sound deadener had gone brittle and broken down.

June 6, 2016 at 12:31 pm #17607one of the nicest utes iv seen in a long time, great colour combo but i guess im a bit biased with the gold simmons lol.brings bak memories of my vr bt1 ,best sounding commodore iv had so far. nuthing beats the rumble of a tuff 5.0

Posts: 322Haha cheers mate yea its a work in progress, ill let you guys know how it goes. Tranny and pipes cook floor so much even the side of radio facia gets hot and cooks my left leg haha
With my hq when i did it the difference was huge and all i did was spray in sound deadener top n bottom of cab plus an underlay with alloy backing. In summer my floor would get so hot feet would sweat. After the sound and heat cut out was amazing. And for those who chasing drag times it only weighs 3.5 ks for 2sqm

Very funny,So been really busy with work, quoting jobs flat out and in process of getting my DBU, so ute has been on the back burner. Put a carpet underlay in that has a alloy sheet in the middle of it, hopefully give evan more heat protection.
Installed my new black carpet and new seat belts. As i have been going have been giving all the plastics a good clean and getting rid of all the built up dirt and dust from years as a work ute. Removed the jack assembly as well and will relocate to inside the tub.
Also fixed the problem of my 12 inch sub sounding mufled and distorting easy I removed covers that block 90mm holes that go between cab and where sub is mounted under tub. These were behind where my amps are mounted. I then have remounted amps over the top but with 15mm rubber spacers so the air can freely move out as before sub sounded not great as not enough air space in the under tub area.

Posts: 5 777Btw, I also used some of that stick on silver foil stuff on the underside of the car in a few strategic places as well. Did the sides of my fuel tank for example, might be worth doing that where you think the exhaust is close to the floor?
July 5, 2016 at 10:19 am #18188Also noise wise if you get the lower dash inserts the plastic ones from a statesman/calais they have from factory extra sound deadening on that plastic ribbed panel.
I wonder why also its getting so hot anyway? Considered ceramic coating your front pipes and headers?

Posts: 322The passenger side extractor runs so close to the footwell that the standard spray on sound deadening had started to fall off and the standard carpet underlay had fallen apart.
Ill have a look into the stato lower plastics as well may make a small difference as the firewall above that line doesn’t really have much heat/sound deadening
I am getting vsclubby355 big pacies so ill get them treated after cleaning them up
