Well after seeing VRSenator06 post with powder coated crossmember, i decided to give the VKs some love.

Crossmember powder coated in satern black, decided to paint the lower arms as i didn’t think the powder coating would stand up to pressing new ball joints in place.

Replaced the bushes with Super pro bushes.

Painted the “Z” arms , washers and swaybar links silver.

    New swaybar link bush kit.

Removed the steering intermediate shaft while the rack is out and repainted as well.

Bloody nice work. There is nothing better than putting clean parts back on your car.

Haven’t done alot of late , but did manage to fit VY V8 booster /master cylinder, bought a mounting bracket fabricated by another VK enthusiast, still had to weld up the hole on master cyl push rod and redrill to give original pedal position.

Made new brake hard lines, and plumbed a B&M line locker on the rear brake line.

I ran the front passenger side out through drivers inner gaurd then along the back of the crossmember to the passenger side, running it through black heat sheilding, looks very stealth, and is well away from the downpipe and exhaust path.

Is that done in copper? The bulk head nuts look good too. Where you get em from?

    Tubing is copper nickle.

got the bulkhead fittings from Hydrolink, they had straights and 90s.

I think it’s nikel plated copper. I just got it and all fittings from Hydrlink here in NZ, but if you search for 3/16 Copper nikel brake tube on eBay you’ll get plenty of hits. I used around 8 meters to do the whole car.

    Nickel is Silver…

Shouldn’t be Copper tube it’s been illegal to use in car braking systems for 30 odd years now.

Pretty sure it’s Bundy Tube which is Copper over Steel (probably with a high Nickel content so it doesn’t corrode inside).

Nice job it all looks really good!

    It’s actually an alloy, 90% copper / 10% nickle.

“The braking system in road vehicles is one of the most critical items for safety. Tubing, transmitting hydraulic pressure from the central master cylinder to each of the slave cylinders at the wheels, is particularly at risk to pecking damage from stones and corrosion by salt thrown from road surfaces. For some years now, 90/10 copper-nickel tubing has been used consistently to replace steel tubing which has failed in the application. Also, it is installed as original brake tubing by an increasing number of manufacturers wishing to maintain a reputation for reliability.”

    Boot floor stone chip coated.

    Optima battery box mounted.

Started mocking up the fuel system,

Long range fuel tank is in with AEM 340 e85 pump.

Will be replacing the two Bosch 044 pumps with AEM 400 pumps, going flex fuel and  the 044s may not quite have enough flow for e85,

Will probably stage the second pump to come on at low boost to minamise heating fuel.

3ltr surge tank, pump pre filters, check valves and “Y” into filter,

Will use bulk head AN fittings where lines pass through the boot floor.

feed and return will be -10 teflon lined braided.

New fuel pumps, AEM 400s, quieter and much higher flow, with the exact same footprint as the Bosch 044s.

    The 044s are rated to 700hp a piece N/A

the AEM 400s are rated to 1200hp a piece N/A
