Posts: 227so my brake fluid reservoir is slowly going down from max to min over 1000km…. no noticeable leaks and brakes work great.
in the last 6 months I have new master, booster, front calipers.
any ideas of what to check or what would cause it? stuffed if I know where the fluid is going….

Posts: 5 777Interesting one, my experience is if there is a leak of some sort on the pressure side you feel it in the pedal. Sounds like its not drawing air into the system either otherwise the pedal would be going spongy?
Have a look around the actual reservoir, its not seeping where it fit into the master cylinder?
August 22, 2015 at 1:16 pm #8619It’s not leaking back into the booster is it?

Posts: 227I’ve previously had a look around the booster/master today for signs of leaks, and as they are new it was pretty easy to see it wasn’t leaking.
i’ve previously had a look around each caliper and there was no signs of leaks, and no oil on the driveway, but I will have a double check to be 100%. Also should check the ABS unit thoroughly but no noticeable signs of leak previously.
Leaking into the booster – well that could be the problem but it is a new booster and master… stranger things have happened tho …

Posts: 227got the car booked in with the mechanic that did the brake upgrade next week. Of course he scoffed when I said i thought the fluid was leaking into the booster. He said he would look though… will update the thread after.

Posts: 227so car was at the shop today. mechanic said the booster was dry and no signs of internal leakage. he did a check over and said that he couldn’t find any leaks. he reckons it’s the pistons wearing in… I have not checked how much i have worn the pads.. I never touched the fluid before, but I do have twin piston and VT master now… !?!?
Did two sunshine coast trips and gold coast trip from bris and it was down a quarter…. highway driving too…

Posts: 227picked the car up from the mechanic and he said he pulled off all the brake hoses and check em. he said one looked like it may have been leaking a bit. he didn’t say which one and I was in bit of a rush, but hopefully this is the actually issues.

Posts: 227Update – so the brake fluid lasted 2 weeks before the reservoir was down at minimum, and I don’t even drive it to work… as I still have the VT reservoir on it, min is too low….
took it to another mechanic today, and he said it was leaking from a metal plug in the master, which the fluid dripped off and ran along the chasis rail….
My engine bay, after almost 20 years, isn’t too sexy, so yes the fluid leak is obvious when someone else points it out… feel bit stupid for not picking it up but that was the reason I took it to a fresh set of eyes.
so that’s been fixed, so hopefully it’ll hold the fluid now… hopefully!

Posts: 227well the brakes survived a track day at Queensland Raceway… did leak the tinniest bit from between the booster and spacer (since I got VT master). you could see were an evapourated oil trail ran down the booster… tried to tighten up the nut but it was plenty tight.
