Long Term Engine Storage

Hi guys,

What are your tips and techniques for either storing an engine or having one sit around for a while without being started? In my case, I’ve got my LS3 in the car but its still a little way of being able to start. It hasn’t run for almost 12 months now, and it hasn’t had oil in it for the duration. I’ve turned it over by hand about 5 months ago when I installed the converter and gear box, but that’s it. It has 39,000 kms on it. Should I squirt anything into the cylinders, turn it over by hand periodically, or leave it?

Unbolt the rockers, put some oil in the cylinders and turn it over occasionally with the plugs out.

As Ian said,

back off the rockers and turn over frequently.

As above but then screw the plugs back in (dont need to be tight) just to keep it sealed and stop crud getting in.
