Posts: 167Today I scrounged up some enthusiasm and plugged my dash cluster into the wiring harness. Won’t know if it’s correct until I get the pcm back this week sometime.
Can already see my fuel gauge is showing full when I know it’s not even half full. So there’s an issue there.
Otherwise, Illumination works, indicating works, high beam light doesn’t for some reason. There’s still alot more to assess before its ready.

Posts: 167should be getting my shifter cable back this weekend. And plans to order extractors for it on Monday and get an exhaust started.
Pcm is on its way and is due either Friday or early next week.

Posts: 167Since I’m going to be carpeting everything I figured I’d start in the airbox as I had an offcut pretty much the right size.
First dynamat type insulation
Carpet cut and laid
And the filter where it’s likely to sit plus a shroud later on.
It might not look like much at the moment but I do want to make it somewhat nice inside.
I know I reference mad max but that’s for the outside. Inside will be pure audio/comfort/insulated etc

Always a good feeling when you start the motor for the first time.
Have you had a quick run around the block yet?

Posts: 167Yes thankyou it was such a relief to hear it fire up.
I haven’t been able to shift gears yet so no driving just yet.
I’m hoping that happens tomorrow

Posts: 167so i drove to work today. in my van.
has some typical, but annoying teething issues.
low on trans fluid.
leaking trans fluid.
im not confident on the fan.
its dribbling coolant(water atm until i get it sealed up/flushed)
headers are touching the chassis rails big time, vibes are horrible.
headers have cracked after repairing it, again, and has that mad tractor tick.
got the rest of the exhaust made up but its rough as fuck because it was night time and bad lighting.
and then to add salt to the wound, i smashed my phone while using it as a torch, i must have dropped it on something harder than the screen. im guessing the ground.
to do list:
add more trans fluid so it actually shifts properly.
replace the rear seal on the transmission, again. with a genuine holden one instead of kelpro.
replace the hose clamp or maybe just tighten it maybe? on the bottom rad hose. good opportunity to give it a solid flush in the same instant.
plus theres plenty of other things that need attention. ie, driving without a speedo is interesting. and the temp gauge doesnt work yet for some reason. fuel gauge shows over full because of a resistance difference but a resistor that ive ordered will fix that. be here during the week sometime.
im sure ive missed stuff but its all progress.

speedo/tacho/temp/fuel gauges all work now.
speedo is out, but works.
temp gauge is spot on, and the fan on all the time is keeping it right down low on the gauge so pretty sure i can switch it over to PCM control.
fuel gauge is waiting on a resistor to make it show me true empty.
tacho is the only one working proper.
new alternator is due hopefully tomorrow, im a bit sketchy about driving it just on the battery… very much not ideal.
about to go and pickup a replacement EGR bung so i can plumb it back into the exhaust as i think thats whats causing a misfire at the moment.

Posts: 322So when you rev it motor doesnt hit anything some bloody tight clearances. Will take few people by surprise i think. Why is there carpet in the actual air box?

Posts: 167the motor itself hits nothing, but youre right, the pipes are “just” resting on the chassis rails which makes for some nasty vibrations. ive got tiny bit more clearancing to do before its freed up completely. (the back of my axe makes a good beating tool)
carpet in the air box, was to tame the induction hiss from the filter. the rest of it will be carpet too so it will all match, just havent got that far with the tidying up yet.
ive always received some weird looks because of how it looks, but ive been getting even more since driving it over past couple weeks. I love it tho, and i forgot just how much attention it demands. especially sitting at lights.

Posts: 167Spoken to the engineer and he’s happy to pass it with a pair of turbos on it as long as it passes emissions.
L67 tune/injectors + L36(normal compression) +8psi twin turbo +4.44:1 diff should be quite entertaining to drive.
