Hey guys, recently completed a V8 swap into my commodore. Purchased my Dual plane low rise manifold a while ago and have been caught up in other things, Now it’s time to install. Figured i’d set up a general guide thread on what to do and what not to do.
I’ve got a proflow 4bbl, and a elite auto thermostat housing.
My questions are:
Where has everyone fitted their Intake temp (MAT) sensor? and what size thread do i need to tap?
Im assuming i drill it into the flat piece above runner number 7, which would sit right at the end of number 8, closest to the throttle body?Do the stock fuel rails clear the thermostat housing? If not, what have people done or ran that isnt stock? I remember seeing fitting you could bolt into the front of the rails and run some -6 braided hose, but i cant seem to find them again.
Throttle cable end and bracket? What have people done here? do you cut the end of the cable off and fit a lokar or similar unit? and what cable to use? Will the stock 5L cable be fine?
the brake vacuum hose. Does a simple 1/4 bsp to barb work fine here?
Aftermarket water temp gauge. I’m not sure if i should run the factory gauge with my additional gauge? If people have, where have you mounted the extra sensor?
heater line ports. I havent hooked up my heater yet, and i know the water pump runs into the manifold in one of the ports, Should i do the same, or just block off for the time being?
I think that’s it, ill add more if i think of anything. If you’ve completed this job feel free to chime in and share your stories. Im sure it will make my life, and anyone else life easier.

Posts: 48Ive had one but the dual hi rise.
Seen a few ,best way is to use a vk throttle cable and ball joiner.
Bracket use a aeroflow or similar bracket or fab something up.
Use the standard temp sensors you need both ,for fittings go to pirtek
and if you want an aftermarket guage fitted id just put it in place of the factory
guage. The ecu temp has to be there to run correctly.
The mat sensor is usually located on number 6 runner but it wont matter
what runner to much but best to keep it similar to factory.
Throttle body should have some vaccum fittings for map and fuel reg.
Port for the brake booster runner 7 from memory.
I blocked my heater ports just too messy with the factory hose.
Pic of one I did years ago, wasnt the neatest but it was but worked.
wouldn’t use that style of thermostat cover as it was too close to
the fuel rail.
Other pic is a customers car with a harrop dual plane.

Did some digging and dummied up my manifold today. Few things i can tell anyone who wants to do this.
MAT Sensor thread is M14 x 1.5
Spacers between the stock fuel rails and Low rise manifold is 60mm with LS1 injectors.
trying to track down a thread tap that 14mm, should hopefully be bolted down tomorrow. Then need to order/make throttle cable bracket and cable end.
May 2, 2015 at 9:59 pm #6163Manifold MUST go in the rear passenger side runner.
If if you have an after market gauge just tap a new thread into the manifold for it
If you choose to ditch the heater you mMUST run one of the lines from the
water pump nipples back to the manifold area.
I use a VT Cable.

Posts: 435I have a dual plane hi rise, i had a cable made to suit which cost me about $70.00 i had it made with the steel threaded fittings for the throttle side, rather than plastic as found on some of them, i also had the Accelerator cable end to suit a VS, as the fitting on that end is slightly different.
in couldn’t run a billet throttle cable bracket as it wouldn’t clear the air filter, so i’ll have to make one up

May 10, 2015 at 7:44 pm #6627thanks for your comments and help guys. got the manifold on, and started to plumb everything on.
Few things for anyone else doing this. Im using a proflow throttle body, paired with a 2 1/2″ filter (flat base), it clears the linkages for the throttle body and the fuel rails perfectly. Im going to be using a Lokar cable end and a cheap aeroflow like cable bracket.
Probably going to run a lower VN V6 rad hose for the top as ive got the 360 swivel housing. happy days!
