Posts: 585Anyone done their own brake lines? This kit off eBay looks alright, comes with bender, flaring kit and pipe cuter:
25ft of line is only $40 as well

Posts: 5 777I have, every one in the car front to back and moving the ABS. Make sure its a double flare tool not a single flare. I did mine in stainless tube which is harder to work with, regular mild steel is easy as. I actually really enjoyed doing it, its nice and simple to do, and comes up really nice once its done.

Yep the one in the link is a double flair kit. Should also help run a new fuel line as well.
Hubs are on their way, comes with seals and bearings. Final price was $390

Posts: 5 777I wasnt happy with the flare on that style of kit, but I was lucky as my uncle had a pro style one I was able to borrow. Having said that if your doing it in mild steel, should be good. Have heard some engineers are particular about the flares though (mine wasn’t), might be worth checking?

The guy I spoke to at Hoppers said it’d be easy to do in mild steel, but it was a prick to get right with stainless.
Build a car they said…. It’ll be fun they said….. hahaha

Posts: 5 777Lol, its all the little jobs that add up for sure. I remember pretty much taking a day to do one small brake line before I was happy with it. But at least its a job that you only do once, once its done its done.
April 27, 2017 at 6:59 pm #22566I’ve got a pipe bender and cutters. But that helps being a plumber.
I have to do mine soon but I get my engineer to flare for me rather then buying a cheapie.

Posts: 585I’ll have a chat to my mate who’s helping me with the build over the weekend and see if the kit is worth getting. It’s not all that pricey, and I’ll need the bender and cutter anyway. If the flare tool doesn’t work properly, I’ll get the flares done elsewhere

Posts: 775Just out of interest what is good about the vt booster swap in the early girls ?????
April 28, 2017 at 6:27 am #22580It’s a quick fill booster and 1 inch master. It’s a great upgrade especially with a bigger brake kit.
April 28, 2017 at 8:18 am #22582Just run a new 1/2 feedline with the returnless reg.
Then use the existing hardline as the line for the charcoal canister. That’s what I plan on doing.

There’s an idea. There are three hardlines running from the bay to to the rear, I assume one is the old fuel line and one is the brake line but I don’t know what the third one is for. Gotta get another pair of car stands to get the back end up to have a poke around underneath
There is a reason people run a return line system…
Such as…. Not going FI or stroker at the moment so the factory setup (VE/VF returnless system) should be ok for now. Can always add a return line down the track when the mods start up again.

Def agree if its stock no issue. And this is all just my personal opinion, so take what I say with a pinch of salt, but imo a returnless system is prone to heat soak especially if there is a lot of heat in the bay. Basically if you are just sitting at low speed or traffic, the fuel is just sitting in the fuel rail getting hotter and hotter, a return system is constantly circulating the fuel back to the cool fuel tank, keeping the fuel and fuel lines relatively cool. Also in high hp demands, (especially FI) with a returnless system, when you stomp on the gas, you are expecting the system at the rear of the car to instantaneously ramp up flow to cope, the potential is there for it to not meet instantaneous demand and hence lean out. No way in a FI, big HP set up like Cavs would I run like that, I just wouldn’t take the risk, but as I say that’s just my opinion.

Posts: 585Thanks Gary, I’m open to all suggestions and advice, so please continue adding your two cents worth! I’ll stick with the single line as the CAE kit comes with a regulator/filter setup that’s mounted near the tank, nice and simple.

Posts: 5 777Yea look i reckon its like a lot of things, comes down to personal preference. I do think having nice cool fuel running through all the time can only be a good thing, but it does mean its a little more involved. But when I ran mine really running two lines alongside each other wasn’t much more work than doing one. I should have done the charcoal canister line at the same time but didn’t, so I went and just ran a rubber line front to rear and cable tied it to the fuel line. Ended up neat enough.

this kit is on its way. Gonna try and swing past Supercheap and get another set of car stands to get the rear end up and start sussing out the fuel tank and lines. Off to the wreckers in the morning to pick up some more parts.
April 28, 2017 at 6:11 pm #22610There are 850rwhp lsa on the states running of a return less setup. I rekon it will be ok.

Posts: 585Thanks Cav and Gary. There are positives for a return system undoubtedly, but I’ll stick with the factory style setup for now. If I go for a blower/turbo/striker/unicorn fart injection, I’ll upgrade it then. Should just need to run a bigger line and use the one I’ll run now as the return.
April 28, 2017 at 6:22 pm #22613Later. It will be already engineeed so u can just sack some rubber hose under for a return if need be.
