My lad is dating a girl from Sapin and her family were out here.  So they borrowed the truckster and went down to Second Valley, McLaren Vale for a couple of days.  Apparently, it never missed a beat, and even Clara’s Dad thought it was pretty old school cool :)

Finally got around to rebuilding the carby on the weekend,. Its was basically full of 30 years of crud.   Next, I want to work through a replace all the various vacuum lines as they are pretty sad and sorry.

Id be replacing the vaccume hoses with high temp silicon ones  while you are at it.

How did you find rebuilding it? Have you had it running since?

Yep rebuild went well, runs great now, I guess once I take it on a longer drive will see if the fuel economy is better.  Sort of wanted to keep the look of all the lines factory, so sticking with a similar type.

Just driving it around a little.  But my lad hurt his ribs so he hasn’t raced karts for a while, but we are heading out this Saturday so should be out for a run :)

Fitted the new plates on the weekend, really happy with them.  Also, we are racing next weekend and it has been a while since I had driven it so I gave it a nice clean, and took to Dads for fathers day yesterday.  It’s running really well, the only issue is a fast idle, not sure if that’s something to do with the auto choke or not, might have to have a little look and see.

Found another nice piece of the puzzle, looks like I have scored a nice set of correct 1987 VL Berlina hubcaps.  The guy may also have the correct radio, although I am a little scared at what price he may want for it given they seem to be as scarce as rocking horse shit, and as sort after as successful outcome from Brexit.

Be cool to see it looking more original.  Funny how much people want for these things like radios that how many people binned in the day

And I was wrong…. Lordy lordy, turns out the MX5 (Turbos) and LV2(304) had 15″ rims and a different hubcap.  The plus side is I think they look really nice, the downside is they have the Turbo premium on them which makes them more sought after than a barn find Ferrari.  So back to the drawing board and scouting around to see if I can build up a set without selling a kidney

These are what I am after

So last week a set of the correct hubcaps went for $1,200.  So yea nah, I mean first time I left it at Bunnings someone would nick them.  So bought a very nice set of full stainless dress rings, I think they set if off nicely.  Been driving it a bit this week end working on the shed, so cool to drive love it.

Been a while since a post on the wagon.  Been driving it quite a bit lately.

So the Kombi is not that far off going for body/paint which will free up some workshop space and time.  Plan on a couple of things for the VL at Christmas.  The rear hatch really lets it down, its just riddled with rust.  So I have scored a very good VH one, and with the spare that came with the car I can make one good one.  There is work “converting it” to VL, but compared to the Kombi that’s piss easy. So decided to buy all new badges for it so it should look mint.  I also scored the “rare as rocking horse shit” strip that goes across the bottom of the tailgate on only the VL  :good:

Also I have always loved the VL Calais mags.  With hubcaps going for +$1,000 I saw set of the mags come up on market place near me for way less than that.  They are actually in really good nick but I am about to drop them into my wheel pace for a full refurb.  I think the white wagon with them should look neat.

Other Christmas job is even with the wiring relay mod for the starter when the cars hot its slow to turn over.  I am thinking its the starter motor itself, so I think that will be on the list.  Also a new ignition barrel.  Happy days.
