May 15, 2020 at 9:03 am #32154Had the pleasure of viewing Ians car last night whilst i went down to pick up some parts he made for me.
All i can say is WOW. This thread does it no justice. Its going to be insane when its done.
May 15, 2020 at 9:22 am #32156Thanks Cav, that seems to be the general consensus from people that have seen it recently, I guess in the pics you don’t get the overall effect as we discussed last night, there’s a LOT going on anywhere you look..

May 17, 2020 at 5:07 pm #32178Is it just me, or did this come together a lot quicker than the Lexen did?
May 17, 2020 at 5:20 pm #32180Just you, the Lexcen was 13 months total, the BMW is 15 months and counting, could have been finished sooner but the Plague sort of got in the way, this is a far more extensive build though..
May 18, 2020 at 6:42 pm #32183And Home,
Got the strut bar finished so it’s “proper” and functional, made a start on the heatshields only to find I’d grossly underestimated how much material I needed by about 60%.. DOH.
The other day when Craig was down we were discussing what I’m going to do with the side trims, they’re big and heavy and a bit ratty so I want to delete them and use some thin aluminium strips painted black to cover the holes.
In the past one was badly damaged then glued on with silicone, when I took them off the Lexcen I made a total mess of it and ended up doing a LOT of painting, Craig suggested using a “caramel wheel” so I sourced one, awesome no paint damage!
Quick run to Bendigo, sorted made a few more stops to get matching hardware instead of the mismatch I’d used on the drivers side, on the way back made a social call at a mates place.
The office is a bit fullOracecar..

Hey Ian how did you mount your heat shields just can not really see in photo’s
May 20, 2020 at 3:53 pm #32191I use M6 nutserts Frazer, for the shields to work there needs to be an airgap behind them, in the past I’ve used spacers but it’s a total pita to work with.
Now I bolt them down solid then push a tyre lever in behind them and that creates the gap.
May 22, 2020 at 1:11 pm #32198That’ll do for today, made my exterior trims to replace the body molds and block the holes, then I made a template and cut out my interior door trims, I need a fresh brain before I tackle the cut outs for the handles so maybe tomorrow..
The Strut brace was a fresh brain day, it makes a difference!
