It’s way easier to work on this way, just have to drill out 2 spot welds and the radiator support unbolts for total acess!

March 9, 2019 at 1:05 pm #28228Gave my front diff a wash then spent a few hours corner weighting and tuning the suspension in a mates Excel race car!
March 10, 2019 at 10:36 am #28236Noticed yesterday that the E36 was a bit crooked on the hoist, leveled it out and had a fiddle with a few bits, hopefully parts arrive this week and I can get stuck in as there’s so much work to do.
March 12, 2019 at 3:22 pm #28265Home and unloaded, went shopping while I was in Melbourne 😊
Got some of the brake parts I need, also collected a bunch of parcels from the post office, suspension bits and some bonnet pins.
March 13, 2019 at 3:25 pm #28275Now it’s a real race car!!
(It has bonnet pins)
This is the first actual constructive thing I’ve done on the car, everything else has been tear down..
Got my Tarmac Coilovers finished!
March 14, 2019 at 1:19 pm #28281When I first got the E36 the bonnet struts were cactus, replaced them right away but they barely held it up and the craptacular clips that hold them on don’t…
So now and again you still got sconned, I’d put new ones on the Lexcen for the same reasons and they’re massive by comparison, drill some holes did some Nutserts and I now have a self raising bonnet!
Bolted the front struts and wheels on again and did some measurements and pondering, I have a couple of tricks that will narrow the track just CBF’d doing it today, also got the measurements for the front CV/Axle clearance to the rails..
(Tipping it’s gonna have a good grip on the world)

Posts: 5 777Mate you certainly have some serious fab skills, coming along awesome. And yep its certainly going to have a firm grip on the track!!
March 15, 2019 at 11:00 am #28289Thanks Gary, I’m just a hack
—————————————
Slotted the clevis’s, this lets me stand the struts more upright and tucks the wheels in tighter, then the adjustment will be on the Camber plates.
Also had a play around with the rack and front diff as they’d like to occupy the same location, only have to move each 17.5mm off their ideal centreline, I can live with that.
March 15, 2019 at 3:14 pm #28290More parcels arrived!
My Wilwood Brake bias adjuster , my new rear mount sump that’s 50mm lower and the Thrust washers for the tarmac Coilovers..

March 16, 2019 at 12:10 pm #28296Must be Saturday, had another Excel in for some prep work, while I was waiting I mocked up to E36 to the maximum track width I can get away with the flares I bought, this is if I run the 3″ flares both ends.. thoughts?
March 16, 2019 at 3:22 pm #28297Take #2, thoughts?

March 16, 2019 at 8:25 pm #28300Thanks Frazer, I like it and it’s easily repaired
March 18, 2019 at 2:29 pm #28303Made a start on the Roll Cage install today, got to the point where the main hoop fits in the car and called it quits as it’s hot here…
My custom long tube headers I built for the Lexcen weren’t going to work without chopping them up and reworking all the pipes..
Digging around eBay I found a set of forward facing shorty turbo headers reduced from $488 to $200, I figured at the least it’s cheap materials, I’ll chop the collectors and use a pair of 45 degree bends, being so short it leaves room for my 2nd pair of mufflers something I couldn’t do with the long tubes and the motor being so far back in the chassis as the old collectors ended at the transfer case!
March 19, 2019 at 7:44 pm #28305Well that took longer than expected…
Main Hoop done, the big trick was making it removable as the Lexcen is a touch wider inside…
March 20, 2019 at 10:02 am #28308BMW Chassis Reo bits arrived!
March 20, 2019 at 1:29 pm #28309Why does the cage need to be removable?
