Didn’t know you were home or I would have..
June 22, 2019 at 5:23 pm #28953Another ALL forward day, it was never going to be symmetrical as I offset the engine in the chassis to compensate for my weight but it’ll be close enough!

Posts: 5 777Sometimes the best way, especially with something so random. Nothing like making it up as you go along
June 24, 2019 at 4:51 pm #28969Yep I think something like this would be a disaster in the making trying to draw it then make it, I had quite a few revisions along the way…
Went down and laid out some parts and did accurate measurements for the suspension build, the 75mm flares for the rear might be a bit tight so I’ve ordered a set of 90’s.
June 25, 2019 at 1:58 pm #28972After some fiddling I’ve settled on the front and rear track widths, rear will be 15mm wider overall, this is in the wider rear wheels.
Narrowed it 30mm from the first set of pics.
June 26, 2019 at 12:05 pm #28973Thinking time, decided instead of just rushing into this I’d take some time to ponder and see what people’s thoughts are..
In the Lexcen I engineered in some squat, I based this on my old 240z but in hindsight I may have been wrong with an AWD car, while it hammered out of the slower corners it made the inherent understeer much worse as it took weight off the front which allowed more wheelspin..
In the E36 if I follow the factory spring pads this will give me a degree of antisquat when combined with the LCA mounts, I think/feel this will be the better option as the car now has much less of it’s weight over the front end.
Thoughts?

Posts: 585Uh, yes? Plus the weight on the central axis of the primary pivot point rotates counter centrivically around the idiot typing this comment. In summary, I have no idea what works but I’m sure you’ll get it bang on
June 26, 2019 at 6:49 pm #28977Lmao all good guys, I’m pretty sure I’m on the right track with this, have had most of today to think it through..

Wasn’t sure how many layers I needed to cut through so after some thought broke out the plasma cutter, did the finish trimming with a death wheel and a 4″ flap disc.
This would be why Chapman struts aren’t used on passenger cars with antisquat geometry… (Also explains the squat in the early Z cars)

June 27, 2019 at 8:14 pm #28986Yep, that’s what the installed height of the struts will be.

Posts: 5 777It’s def a completely different animal compared to the VR weight distribution wise. Is there potential, or is it worth attempting to make a couple of options position wise so you can tune it once it’s running? or is better to go where you think best then work from there?
