Posts: 5 777Well done mate .not much room around there!
May 21, 2019 at 10:29 pm #28735Thanks Gary, big pipes aren’t helping but they’re needed as a few of the bends are tight, this way they should still flow ok.
I need to keep them as narrow as possible so if needs be I can drop the drivetrain complete.
May 22, 2019 at 6:12 am #28738Nice work mate. Fun begins.
Are those traditional slip joins on the roll cage allowed in your type of racing? I know andra tech don’t accept that any more.
May 22, 2019 at 7:56 am #28739Yep they’re CAMS approved, thanks it’s one of my least favourite jobs but it needs to get done..
May 22, 2019 at 5:38 pm #28740Hating life and Headers atm..
Never again, I strung my Mig with .6mm wire as I don’t want 100% penetration, all well and good if you ignore the semi regular birds nests of wire and having to rethread…

Had the exact same issue when I was working on the Kombi. When I get back into it going to go up in wire size, I am over rethreading the bloody thing!!
Looking good though mate, just remember every weld is one more closer to the end!!
May 23, 2019 at 4:33 pm #28745Thanks Gary, the .6 really needs a puller gun..
———————————–
Spent the morning getting over my Tig/Steel phobia..
New plan of attack is to use the Mig strung with .9mm wire for tacking any big welds and use the Tig for the thin stuff, went over all the welds on the 2 pipes I’d already done as practice.
Can’t understand why I couldn’t find a set of headers off the shelf to fit, these are so basic.. <sarc>
Got through the hard side under budget, will finish weld them tomorrow.
May 25, 2019 at 12:38 pm #28746Hard/difficult pipe done, all downhill from here!
May 25, 2019 at 6:34 pm #287478 pipes, just need to pull the front 4 and finish weld them, make the spring eyes and they’re done, then I can get stuck into the exhaust, I may have bought too many bends….

May 26, 2019 at 5:54 pm #28753Thanks Dude,
won’t win any beauty contests but given the amount of obstacles I’ve had to get around I’m pretty happy, being 1-7/8th they should flow fine!
