Bought this just before I was 16 off ebay in 2010 for something to mess around with, had been sitting around for a few years before I bought it so it had issues but it made the hour and a bit drive home in the dark. Have been slowly fixing it up since. P plate laws came in soon after I bought the car so it sat around until I got my full licence and because of school I didnt have much time to do stuff to it. Paint is stuffed and the body has rust.

    Soooooo awesome.

needs less LS swap and more small block imo

love these things with those rims. Perfect combo, staunch looking cars.

thanks, I probably wont end up doing an ls swap anytime soon if at all, 253 does its job even if it is a bit slow

Amazing, original looking car! Love it!

Please don’t LS or small block it… if you have to keep it all Australian and 5L it…

Great car. These are the cars that make me smile when I hear people car stuff like “no commodore will ever be considered a classic” Having grown up with these, who would have though a humble old 4 door HQ would be soooo cool. +1 for leaving an Aussie V8 in it :)

Love the look of it mate, nice work. I agree with the others, keep the Aussie V8 in it. Especially the 253, they are a great motor and always get told that they gave the 308’s a run for their money too. My dad has a HQ but just a 6cyl, so I have a soft spot for them.

took ac out because it didn’t work, was just an under dash unit which was fitted after the car was built

I have to agree with everyone else. You’ve done a great job tiding it up so far. I also think the 253 should stay original, its enough for cruising.

Great work so far mate. The HQ shape is among the best. Convos look tough too. I have plans for a ‘Q to sit next to the VB one day with a spare big block I have sitting around. Will definitely follow this build.

It’s good to see a young bloke bringing an old classic back to life, looks like a good solid starting block for you.

They can have my V8 when they pry it from my cold dead hands.

Gave this a wash today and had a bit of a mess around with it, decided that im going to put electronic ignition in and priced up new tie rod ends, drag link etc so will probably order them this week. Need to get the carby rebuilt as its leaking from the shafts I think. Once its on the road ill take it to a gas place and finally get the gas tank taken out. Other then that it hasnt really been touched much

Before wash, 6 months worth of dust

After, paints stuffed but at least its clean

Bought another door trim to replace the one which was completely stuffed, only thing is its dark green not black so ill just paint it. Other then that its got 6 months worth of dust on it and is parked in a corner to be dealt with later
