Posts: 189Bought this just before I was 16 off ebay in 2010 for something to mess around with, had been sitting around for a few years before I bought it so it had issues but it made the hour and a bit drive home in the dark. Have been slowly fixing it up since. P plate laws came in soon after I bought the car so it sat around until I got my full licence and because of school I didnt have much time to do stuff to it. Paint is stuffed and the body has rust.
Car: 1974 HQ PremierColour: Sable
Engine: 253 V8
Trans: Leaky trimatic
Diff: Salisbury
Suspension: Super low springs front and rear
Wheels: GTS with dress rings
Interior: Factory bucket seats with cloth insert, full console, woodgrain GTS dash and steering wheel
Other mods: GTS style front grill, rear window venetian
Future mods: Full resto, LS swap
Got a matching set of wheels and had a good clean up, this was after it was lowered and new bushes in the front end a few years ago
Changed wheels after the jelly beans were starting to ruin the guards scraping all the time and pretty much how its sitting now
Trim now, had seats re-trimmed, new carpet and underlay, factory radio put back in dash, cd player was put under dash and a couple of speakers in the parcel shelf
engine now, aircon and gas was removed, standard carby plus air cleaner put onThats a pretty basic write up of whats been done over the few years ive owned the car, thanks for looking

needs less LS swap and more small block imo

thanks, I probably wont end up doing an ls swap anytime soon if at all, 253 does its job even if it is a bit slow

Please don’t LS or small block it… if you have to keep it all Australian and 5L it…

Posts: 5 777Great car. These are the cars that make me smile when I hear people car stuff like “no commodore will ever be considered a classic” Having grown up with these, who would have though a humble old 4 door HQ would be soooo cool. +1 for leaving an Aussie V8 in it

Posts: 264Love the look of it mate, nice work. I agree with the others, keep the Aussie V8 in it. Especially the 253, they are a great motor and always get told that they gave the 308’s a run for their money too. My dad has a HQ but just a 6cyl, so I have a soft spot for them.

took ac out because it didn’t work, was just an under dash unit which was fitted after the car was built

March 15, 2015 at 6:50 am #2665You’ve done heaps of great work already keep it up .
March 15, 2015 at 8:14 am #2670I have to agree with everyone else. You’ve done a great job tiding it up so far. I also think the 253 should stay original, its enough for cruising.

Posts: 189April 1, 2015 at 12:38 am #3725Great work so far mate. The HQ shape is among the best. Convos look tough too. I have plans for a ‘Q to sit next to the VB one day with a spare big block I have sitting around. Will definitely follow this build.
April 1, 2015 at 10:09 am #3738I hate that you own this car. We will never speak again….. So much hate

Posts: 26It’s good to see a young bloke bringing an old classic back to life, looks like a good solid starting block for you.
They can have my V8 when they pry it from my cold dead hands.

Posts: 189Gave this a wash today and had a bit of a mess around with it, decided that im going to put electronic ignition in and priced up new tie rod ends, drag link etc so will probably order them this week. Need to get the carby rebuilt as its leaking from the shafts I think. Once its on the road ill take it to a gas place and finally get the gas tank taken out. Other then that it hasnt really been touched much
